2. Sightseeing near the city (some pictures)

◎ Wansheng Black Valley
Located in the primitive forests in Black Mountain of Wansheng, Black Valley, which is about 20 kilometers to Wansheng downtown, including a 6-kilometers' electro mobile touring route, a 6-kilometer’s plank road and floating bridge and a 1-kilometer's cableway touring route, is 13 kilometers long. Forests cover 97 percent of the area of Black Valley, where old trees nearly reach the sky and the trees are evergreen. Black Valley also has the first and second-grand national protective animals such as Black leaf monkey and pangolin and so on. Therefore, Black Valley is regarded as "Yuqian Biological Gene Bank" by biologists.
Black mountain valley tour is explored recent one year and is a tour destination place that is popular accelerating the propagation of the new adventure valley.
Food is available at the junction of the two streams and is a nice place to take a short break.

◎ Wansheng Stone Forest
The Stone Forest Scenic Area is located in Wansheng District, 89km southern from Chongqing. Wansheng Stone Forest is the oldest (formed during the Ordovician epoch) and the second largest stone forest (the largest one is in Guilin) in China. The scenic area covers more than 10 square kilometers, and took over 460 million years for nature to create. The forest here has a typical karsts appearance, filled with sword, drum, pagoda, mushroom and bud shaped stones as well as animal shapes. This place in fact could be called a stone made zoo!!!

◎ Three Gorges
Recognized as one of the top ten scenic spots in China, the Three Gorges provide the most stunning sights and scenery along the Yangtze River, China's longest waterway.
The Three Gorges consist of Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge, stretching 193 kilometers from Baidicheng in Fengjie, and Chongqing in the west, to Nanjinguan in Yichang, Hubei in the east. Within the territory of Hubei are 134 kilometres of the stretch and Xiling Gorge.

◎ Simian Mountain
Located in Jiangjin City, 140 kilometers from the central part of Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Simian Mountain is an area of natural beauty, featuring flourishing forests, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. There are more than 100 waterfalls in this area, among which 23 are quite famous.
With the help of a favorable climate and sufficient rainfall, the region is covered with luxurious forests. The mountain is covered mainly by sub-tropical virgin forests of evergreen broadleaf trees. The forests are inhabited by 207 kinds of animals, with 16 protected as rare animals under the law. Therefore, the area is called "the bank of special genes". The densest forest area is at Dawopu, which is a sea of thick woods.

◎ Jinfo Scenic Area
Jinfo Scenic Area, which is in Nanchuan, is totally 1300 square kilometers and consists of Jinfo Mountain, Bozhi Mountain, and Jinba Mountain. Forests cover about 30 percent of this area. Forests cover 97 percent of the area of Black Valley.
The Jinfo Nature Reserve (Jinfoshan ziran baohuqu), which was built in 1979, is situated amidst huge lush mountains, with one third of the area here covered by virgin forest. there are 5,880 species of 333 families of plants, including 52 rare plants such as cathaya argyrophylla, square bamboo, ginkgo, giant tea, and ginseng, and 36 rare species of animals under special protection by the State, such as presbytis fran?oisi and leopard;

◎ Ancient Town of Gongtan
Ancient Town of Congtan is located at the western end of Youyang County, alongside the Wujiang River and nearby Guizhou Province.
This Ancient Town has a history of 1,700 years, being known for its old street, cliff carvings, square wells of around 700 years old and many ancient small bridges.

◎ Jindaoxia
Jindaoxia, with an altitude of 800-meter, is located in southwest Huaying Mountain, Beibei District, Chongqing, where it is 90 kilometers away from Chongqing urban area. It is firstly “Nation AAA Tour Area” and a newly-found natural landscapes containing amazing primitive antique gorge. There Jindaoxia, formed through hundreds of millions of years, is dominated by gorges and remote gully landscapes, and supported by karst landform and excellent linn scene. 

◎ Dazu Rock Carving
 From August 18th to 22nd, the International Research Council on the Dazu Grotto Carvings will convene in commemoration of 60 years of work studying Chongqing’s best known and most significant historical legacy. The carvings are the city’s only world recognized heritage site, and makes up one of the China’s 28.UNESCO gave it official listing in 1999.

3．Cuisines
Chongqing dishes are rich in flavor and use almost 40 different cooking methods in their preparation. These methods include drying, salting, spicing, pickling, frying and smoking. Color, smell, flavor, shape, and nutrition are all carefully balanced. Chongquing Cuisine is largely a hybrid of Sichuan cuisine and local specialty dishes. Compared with Chengdu’s Sichuan Cuisine, Chonqing Cuisine has a stronger flavor and is spicier and more innovative. Its cuisine ranks first among the major cuisine styles of China because of its distinctive characteristics.
Gongbao Jiding: Chicken cubes, dry spices and peanuts are cooked together.
Jiangtuan fish: The steamed fish, retaining all the essence, will definitely leave a deep impression on anyone that has sampled it.
Sliced meat with crispy rice: The meat tastes soft and tender while the rice is crispy, forming a sharp contrast with the former.
All the major hotels here serve high quality western fare and other Chinese regional cuisine.
Chongqing Hotpot: Chongqing hotpot is characterized by its spiciness! As long as you can stand the spiciness, you are advised to try the spiciest one to ensure an authentic experience! In Chongqing, hot pot restaurants can be found everywhere and many have become very popular among the local people.
There are three kinds of hot pot. First, the spicy version called ‘Red soup'. Then, there is basically a bone soup without any spices and tasty, simply asking for ‘Yuan Wei' which means ‘I don't want the spicy stuff!' Finally, there is a compromise called ‘Yuanyang hot pot' which originally named ‘double taste hot pot'.

◎ Cuisine Street on Nanbin Road
The most popular restaurant street at the moment. Taoranju, Favorable Wind 123(Shunfeng123), Qinma Hotpot, Qiwazi, Waipoqiao and A'yi Abalone can all be found here. It is also a great place to enjoy the night view of the city.
◎ Bayi Road Food Street
Near Jiefangbei, this street is full of small stalls and restaurants offering dished from the entire country. Traditional hotpot, Wangyazi,Lubai’e,Chuanbei Chilled Jelly, and the Vegetarian restaurant at the Nengren Temple are great places to try.
◎ Zhigang Avenue in Yangjiaping
Chinese food, hotpot, Western food, and leisure and entertainment facilities are available here with reasonable prices. Sichuan Cuisine and hotpot restaurants are in abundance here, as well as restaurants specializing in Cantonese cuisine and Northern-style dumping in Zhigang Dadao(Avenue) in Yangjiaping.
◎ Beibin Road
Quieter than Nanbin Road,it has 1,500 square meters of restaurants, This area is very suitable for business parties and engagement.
◎ Nanshan(South Mountain)
Here you can find traditional hotpot restaurants, enjoy nature, and be dazzled by the spectacular view of Chongqing city light at night.
